# Fyle vs Archil

Archil gives agents a filesystem on the customer’s own S3 or GCS bucket, with forks and checkpoints. It owns the agent-plus-your-own-bucket story for developers. Fyle aims at a different user: people working in desktop apps, with agents on the same files and a person reviewing what agents change.

Last checked: October 2026. Fyle is in development. Built so far: accounts, organisations with roles, two-factor sign-in, organisation security policies, and device sign-in for the desktop app and CLI. The drive, agent sessions and review are planned and not available yet.

## At a glance

| | Archil | Fyle |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Desktop drive for ordinary apps | No desktop drive for people. [2] | Mounts as an ordinary folder in Finder (macOS), File Explorer (Windows) and a FUSE mount (Linux). Files download when opened and are cached. (Planned: desktop launch) |
| Agent access | AI SDK tools. [1] | Agents work in the mounted folder like any program. `fyle agent claude` (or any other command) runs one in its own session folder. A CLI and an MCP server cover remote agents, under the same permissions as people. (Planned: agent layer) |
| Conflicting edits | Forks and checkpoints. [2] | A save based on an older version becomes a branch. Nothing is overwritten, dropped or turned into a conflicted copy. (Planned: desktop launch) |
| Human review of agent changes | No human review. [2] | A named reviewer keeps the current version, takes the branch or keeps both. Rules decide who reviews which folders. (Planned: review) |
| Windows | Not covered by our research | Windows is a launch platform, alongside macOS and Linux. (Planned: desktop launch) |
| Bring your own storage | Yes. Runs on your own S3 or GCS bucket. [2] | Bring your own S3-compatible bucket: AWS S3, Google Cloud Storage, Cloudflare R2, MinIO or Ceph. (Planned: Enterprise) |
| UK data residency | No UK region stated. [2] | UK-only workspaces: your UK bucket plus a UK-hosted coordinator and database. (Planned: Enterprise) |
| Version history | Checkpoints. [2] | Every version records the person, device and agent session behind it, and any version can be restored. Retention per plan is not final. (Planned: desktop launch) |
| Published price | Free for 10 GB; Team $500/month. [1] | Personal, Team and Enterprise plans, priced per person with storage included; no free tier or trial. [See pricing](https://fyle.sh/pricing) (Draft, not on sale) |

## Where Archil is stronger

- Built to run on your own S3 or GCS bucket today. [2]
- Forks and checkpoints designed for agent workloads. [2]
- Tools for the AI SDK, so developers can wire it into agents directly. [1]

## Where Fyle differs

- Fyle plans a desktop drive: people and agents use the same files through Finder, File Explorer or a Linux mount.
- Fyle plans a named-reviewer step before agent changes land on a person’s file.
- Fyle plans UK-only workspaces for customers who need them.

## Which to choose

### Choose Archil if

- You are a developer building agents and want them on your own bucket today.
- Your agents don’t share files with people working in desktop apps.
- Forks and checkpoints are what you need, without a review step.

### Choose Fyle if

- People and agents work on the same files and you want people to approve agent changes.
- Your files are opened in ordinary desktop apps, not only by code.
- You need UK data residency.

That is planned for Fyle’s Enterprise plan: any S3-compatible bucket, including AWS S3, Google Cloud Storage, Cloudflare R2, MinIO and Ceph. It is not available yet.

### Is Fyle available now?

Fyle is in development. Built so far: accounts, organisations with roles, two-factor sign-in, organisation security policies, and device sign-in for the desktop app and CLI. The drive, agent sessions and review are planned and not available yet.
