# Fyle vs Mesa

Mesa is the product closest to Fyle’s review idea: a versioned filesystem for agents with branches, diffs, rollback and human approval for sensitive edits. It is built for agents through an SDK, FUSE and a bash tool, and was in private beta when we checked. Fyle plans the same kind of review on a desktop drive that people use in their everyday apps.

Last checked: October 2026. Fyle is in development. Built so far: accounts, organisations with roles, two-factor sign-in, organisation security policies, and device sign-in for the desktop app and CLI. The drive, agent sessions and review are planned and not available yet.

## At a glance

| | Mesa | Fyle |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Desktop drive for ordinary apps | No desktop drive for people; SDK, FUSE and a bash tool. [2] | Mounts as an ordinary folder in Finder (macOS), File Explorer (Windows) and a FUSE mount (Linux). Files download when opened and are cached. (Planned: desktop launch) |
| Agent access | SDK, FUSE mount and bash tool. [1] | Agents work in the mounted folder like any program. `fyle agent claude` (or any other command) runs one in its own session folder. A CLI and an MCP server cover remote agents, under the same permissions as people. (Planned: agent layer) |
| Conflicting edits | Branches, diffs and rollback. [2] | A save based on an older version becomes a branch. Nothing is overwritten, dropped or turned into a conflicted copy. (Planned: desktop launch) |
| Human review of agent changes | Human approval for sensitive edits. [2] | A named reviewer keeps the current version, takes the branch or keeps both. Rules decide who reviews which folders. (Planned: review) |
| Windows | FUSE-based; Windows support not stated. [1] | Windows is a launch platform, alongside macOS and Linux. (Planned: desktop launch) |
| Bring your own storage | Not covered by our research | Bring your own S3-compatible bucket: AWS S3, Google Cloud Storage, Cloudflare R2, MinIO or Ceph. (Planned: Enterprise) |
| UK data residency | Not covered by our research | UK-only workspaces: your UK bucket plus a UK-hosted coordinator and database. (Planned: Enterprise) |
| Version history | Versioned filesystem with rollback. [2] | Every version records the person, device and agent session behind it, and any version can be restored. Retention per plan is not final. (Planned: desktop launch) |
| Published price | Free for 50 GB, then $0.20/GB-month. [1] | Personal, Team and Enterprise plans, priced per person with storage included; no free tier or trial. [See pricing](https://fyle.sh/pricing) (Draft, not on sale) |

## Where Mesa is stronger

- Branches, diffs and rollback built for agents. [2]
- Human approval for sensitive edits, the closest anyone gets to Fyle’s review step. [2]
- A free tier of 50 GB and usage-based pricing after that. [1]

## Where Fyle differs

- Fyle plans a desktop drive first: people open the same files in Finder, File Explorer or a Linux mount, in their usual apps.
- Fyle plans Windows at launch.
- Fyle plans review for changes to any kind of file; binaries branch and a person picks a version.

## Which to choose

### Choose Mesa if

- You are building agents and want a versioned filesystem through an SDK.
- Your users are agents, not people opening files in desktop apps.
- Usage-based pricing per GB suits your workload.

### Choose Fyle if

- People and agents need to work on the same files from the desktop.
- Your team uses Windows.
- You want reviews routed to named owners of folders, for example /contracts to the legal team.

## Questions

### Is Mesa a desktop drive?

No. When we checked in October 2026, Mesa was a versioned filesystem for agents, reached through an SDK, a FUSE mount and a bash tool, and it was in private beta.

### Do Fyle and Mesa both review agent changes?

Mesa offers human approval for sensitive edits. Fyle plans review for any change an agent makes on top of an older version, or to folders a policy protects, with reviewers chosen by ownership rules. Fyle’s review flow is planned, not available yet.

### Is Fyle available now?

Fyle is in development. Built so far: accounts, organisations with roles, two-factor sign-in, organisation security policies, and device sign-in for the desktop app and CLI. The drive, agent sessions and review are planned and not available yet.

### Where do these facts come from?

Competitor facts come from our October 2026 review of 50 products, and each one links to the page it was taken from. Prices are as published, in the vendor’s currency. We recheck these pages and correct anything that has changed.
