Desktop: Mac, Linux and Windows

Fyle puts your workspaces in Finder on a Mac and under ~/Fyle on Linux. Files download when you open them and every save becomes a new version. Windows is in development.

Mac

  1. Install Fyle for Mac and open it. It lives in the menu bar. The signed download is published at launch.
  2. Click the Fyle icon → Sign in…. Your browser shows a code: check it matches and approve.
  3. macOS adds new file providers switched off. Fyle opens the right page: System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions → File Providers, then turn Fyle on. You only do this once.
  4. Each workspace appears under Locations in the Finder sidebar.

The menu bar shows sync state (up to date, uploading, offline, paused), changes kept for review, and lets you pause sync or open the dashboard. Settings, policies and billing live in the web dashboard.

Linux

Fyle on Linux is the fyle command plus a user service. Mounting needs FUSE 3 (fuse3).

Sign in, then mount every workspace under ~/Fyle
fyle login
fyle service install

fyle login prints a code and opens your browser to approve it. The service keeps workspaces mounted after a restart. For one workspace in the foreground: fyle mount WORKSPACE.

Windows

Fyle for Windows (workspaces in File Explorer, files downloaded when opened) is in development. Until then, use the web dashboard, or the fyle command from WSL with the Linux steps.

How saves work

  • Files download when you open them and stay cached on your computer. The cache never removes a file with unsynced changes.
  • Every save is a new version, recorded before anything is sent, so a crash or lost connection never loses it. Offline changes upload when you're back online.
  • Saving over someone else's newer version keeps both: your save becomes a branch for review, and your copy goes back to the current version. Nothing is overwritten.
