Fyle for law firmsMatter files where AI drafts and a lawyer decides what lands
Firms want AI to help with first drafts, bundles and summaries, but a client’s matter file is not a place for unreviewed changes. Fyle is a desktop drive where agents work on copies in their own session and a named lawyer decides what reaches the matter.
AI drafts are useful. Unreviewed AI edits are not.
Fee earners, assistants and now AI tools all work on the same documents. On most drives, whoever saves last wins, or the drive leaves a conflicted copy for someone to reconcile.
Firms also need to show who changed a document and when, and to keep tight control over which matters an AI tool can see at all.
How Fyle fits
Fyle is in development. This is what exists today and what is planned, marked on every line.
Available now
- Organisations with roles: owner, admin, billing, member and viewer.Available now
- Two-factor sign-in with an authenticator app, which an organisation can require for everyone.Available now
- Organisation security policies: maximum session age, idle time-out and how often desktop devices must sign in again.Available now
Planned
- Matter folders mount in Finder and File Explorer, so Word documents and PDFs open as usual.Planned: desktop launch
- Agents run in their own session with access only to the matters you grant. Their edits are held separately until they land.Planned: agent layer
- Changes to protected folders, such as /matters/*/final/, always become branches for a named reviewer.Planned: review
- Every version records who made it, from which device, and which agent session if any. Any version can be restored.Planned: desktop launch
- Full audit log with export to your SIEM, plus configurable retention and legal hold.Planned: Enterprise
An agent at work
The agent reads the correspondence, writes a draft chronology and suggests edits to the case summary. The summary is in a protected folder, so the edit becomes a branch rather than changing the document.
$ cd ~/Fyle/matters/2026-0142
$ fyle agent claude --task "Draft a chronology from the correspondence folder and mark gaps"

- The SRA Code of Conduct requires you to keep the affairs of current and former clients confidential unless disclosure is required or permitted by law or the client consents (paragraph 6.3). Fyle’s planned controls let you restrict each matter to named people and agents; they don’t replace your own risk assessment.
- Whether using a cloud service or an AI tool affects legal professional privilege is a question for your firm’s own advice. Fyle does not give legal advice.
- Fyle’s own search and agent features treat text inside files as data, never as instructions. An agent you run keeps only the access you granted it, so a document can’t widen what it can reach.
- Client files contain personal data, so UK GDPR applies. UK-only workspaces (your UK bucket and a UK-hosted coordinator) are planned for Enterprise, as are a data processing agreement and published subprocessors.
Not legal advice. Fyle features mentioned here are planned unless marked available now.
